An SCE student delegation participated in a conference on innovation held in Germany
Today, we want to tell you about the student delegation that recently returned to Israel after participating in an innovation project in Germany.
Four leading students and entrepreneurs from the local High-Tech Park, Gav-Yam Negev, all SCE 3rd-year students (juniors), participated in a unique, international project with the cooperation of a Tech-7 Company, Jadde Financial Solutions, and the University of Bochum, Germany. The SCE delegation also included: Michael Shlomo, from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management; and Gal Ben Ḥaim, Oleg Muravyov and Saber Elsayed from the Computer Sciences Department. Together, this group deal with the development of novel solutions for the management of incidents, such as floods, with goals of saving lives and reducing damages.
This project focuses on the development of innovative solutions for the management of floods, with an emphasis placed on sustainability, safeguarding quality, and the saving of lives. Throughout this trip, the students were exposed to fascinating experiences and enriching events.
The delegation attended lectures on various topics in innovation and the management of catastrophes and floods and visited the historic mines of Bochum—all of which gave them a unique perspective on the city’s development. The students presented their ideas in English before the Bochum University staffs and representatives of cooperating companies and researchers. The feedback they received bolstered their professional confidence and improved their skills. Additionally, the delegation participated in making professional pitches at an incubator, located at its innovation branch, Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
SCE student, Michael Shlomo, represented impressions expressed by his fellow participants: “This was an unforgettable experience. Working with international researchers and having the opportunity to give a presentation before a professional audience greatly contributed to my personal and professional development. The professional environment, alongside quality networking, provided us with a great deal of inspiration.”
Gal Ben Ḥaim added: “This trip was scrupulously planned, with meetings that professionally stimulated and inspired us. We learned, developed and deepened our knowledge in significant areas. Despite the distance from home, the situation in Israel and the condition of our hostages accompanied us throughout the trip. They were an integral part of our conversations and concerns, that we mentioned at every opportunity.”
Saber Elsayed and Oleg Muravyov, who presented the “AidPin Project,” recounted: “It was an enthralling week of lectures and cooperation with centers of innovation and our presentation of “Project AidPin,” which was approved by the professor and received practical support. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this inspiring experience.”
The international delegation was not disbanded upon the return to Israel. Some of the SCE students are already actively working on the extension of this cooperation with Bochum University the professors, towards the goal of furthering the research and creating innovative solutions to the management of flood catastrophes.
The Bochum experience had integrated theoretical and practical learning, opened doors for international networking, and granted the students important tools for future use. We are proud of our students and expect to see their contributions to the worlds of Technology and Emergency Management. We thank all the participants, who transformed this delegation into an inspiring experience.
