Welcome to the SCE Tech Fest 26 Hackathons
“Mechathon 2026,” Mechanical Engineering
Sunday-Monday, 14-15.6.26 | 24 hours | An online event
The “Mechathon” is a competitive, international 24-hour event in the areas of design and engineering; it brings together Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design students. Within the framework of this event, the participants will cope with planning and development challenges provided by SodaStream. These projects will be judged by an international judging panel according to the criteria of innovation, functionality and design. The participants will compete for prizes and internationally valued certificates of participation.
A hackathon in cooperation with “Adamah,” Chemical Engineering
Sunday, 14.6.26 (16:30-18:00) & Monday, 15.6.2026 (8:00-18:00) | classrooms in the Shimon and Safra buildings and in Minkoff hall
This hackathon will be held in cooperation with “Adamah Makhteshim,” during which the company will present a professional challenge from the industrial world. The students will cope with this mission in teams, each team suggesting innovative solutions that combine academic knowledge with applicable, creative thinking. Adamah’s engineers will serve as team mentors and judges during the event, alongside members of the SCE faculty.
Hackathon “Dynamic Buildings,” Civic Engineering
Monday, 15.6.26 | 9:00-12:00 | second-floor concourse, Katzir Building
Within the context of the course: “Dynamic Buildings,” given by Dr. Marina Firer, third-year (junior) students in the Department of Civic Engineering are taught the basic concepts necessary for the dynamic analysis of ‘responsive architecture’ and how to calculate dynamic reactions of structures. In a more advanced course, they will be taught how to plan earthquake-resistant buildings. The students are required to do final projects, in which they make structural models and test their ability to withstand dynamic loads. The course’s lecturers determine the grades according to the degree of success or failure of these models to survive blows received by eggs tossed at them.
An “Architectural Planning” hackathon, Civil Engineering
Monday, 15.6.26 | 9:00-14:00 | First-floor concourse, Katzir building
This hackathon will take place within the framework of the course: “Architectural planning,” given by Dr. Martin Smith and Mr. Andre Deutsch. In this course, the first-year students (freshmen) learn the basic concepts in architectural work and the process of architectural planning, to create a common language between the architect, the construction engineer, and the planning advisors, as part of the whole project. During the semester, the students work on their ongoing architectural projects, at the end of which they are required to draw their architectural plan of a spatial truss for a simple building. In anticipation of this hackathon, the students formed work teams and conducted a pre-hackathon exercise, during which they planned and designed a truss—they would later build the model of the spatial truss on the day of the event and present it as demonstration of the subject-matter learned during the course.
A “Marketing Management” hackathon, Industrial Engineering & Management
Monday, 15.6.26 | 10:00-14:00 | Fourth-floor classrooms, Legacy building
During this hackathon, second-year students (sophomores) in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management will reveal their final projects—marketing plans for new products that they are suggesting to a brand they themselves selected.
