Program
The study program in physics, in the academic track, comprises five courses, taken during the 1st and 2nd years.
Introduction to Physics Courses: Introduction to Physics 1, Introduction to Physics 2, Introduction to Physics for Electrical Engineering, Introduction to the Mechanics of a Rigid Body.
These courses are intended for students that did not take 5-point level physics. The passing grade is 60. These courses provide basic knowledge of mechanics and electricity, which is necessary for further academic studies, and require an attendance of 80% in lectures and exercise sessions.
Introduction to Physics 1 is a prerequisite course to Physics 1 and to Introduction to Physics 2. Introduction to Physics 2 is a prerequisite course to Physics 2.
Introduction to Physics for Electrical Engineering is intended for students of the Electronics and Electrical Engineering department, and is a prerequisite course to Physics 1a.
Introduction to Mechanics of a Rigid Body is intended for students of the Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering departments, and is an introductory course for the statistics course.
Students may be exempt from introductory physics courses in the following cases:
- Successfully passing the 5-point physics Bagrut test
- Successfully completing a recognized pre-academic program, including 5-point level physics, and achieving a score of at least 60.
- Having studied at an international institution for higher education, and submitting the required documents.
Despite the above, the admissions and/or teaching committees may decide to conduct a screening test to determine whether or not to offer a student an exemption from the introductory courses.
Note: Students attending the designated pre-academic preparatory program will take the following courses: Extended Introduction to Physics 1, Extended Introduction to Physics 2. These courses offer an extended base of the required knowledge in mechanics and electricity for the further academic studies.
Physics 1a and Physics 1b
These courses are intended for 1st year students and include the following subjects: introduction, vector theorem, kinetics, dynamics, work and energy, impulse and momentum, harmonious motion, dynamics of a rigid body.
Physics 1b is relevant for industrial engineering and management only and is suited for the needs of this department. Physics 1a is relevant for the other departments. These courses are prerequisite courses to Physics 2.
Physics 2a and Physics 2b
These courses are intended for 2nd year students and include the following subjects: electricity and magnetism, modern physics.
Physics 2a is relevant for the electronics and electrical engineering and mechanical engineering departments, and focuses on the topics that are important for electronics and electrical engineering. Physics 2b is relevant for the other departments.
Physics 1 and Physics 2 Laboratories
Physics laboratories are an integral part of physics studies and are taught in tandem with Physics 1 and Physics 2, respectively. During these sessions, students conduct experiments in advanced laboratories which are equipped with computerized equipment.
