Building Accessibility Accommodations on the Ashdod Campus

The Sami Shamoon College of Engineering, Ashdod Campus, is located on Jabotinsky Street in Ashdod: the Jabotinsky campus is located at 84 Jabotinsky street and the Bnei Brit campus at 2 Jabotinsky street and the corner of Bnei Brit street.

In recent years the SCE has implemented a work plan, and is augmenting this plan to enable persons with a disability more convenient access to the various campus facilities.

 

Parking

There are parking areas on the two campuses suited for persons with a disabled parking permit, including a tall vehicle.

Jabotinsky Campus

The entrance to the parking garage is from the main entrance to the campus on Jabotinsky street.  

There are 3 parking spaces for persons with a disabled parking permit – one for a tall vehicle.

 Bnei Brit Campus

The entrance to the parking garage is from Lochamei Ha’Esh street, through the rear entrance gate to the campus.

There are 3 parking spaces for persons with a disabled parking permit – one for a tall vehicle.

Bnei Brit campus – entrance is through the gate adjacent to the security guard booth (also for wheelchairs).   

Campus Entrance Arrangements

Students with a Ministry of Transportation disabled parking permit can contact the Student Support Center in the Dean of Students Office. You will be requested to fill a request form for accommodations and to provide medical documents issued by medical specialists.

  • Students with temporary mobility difficulties (e.g., following an accident or a disease), who are not recognized by the Ministry of Transportation, can contact the Student Support Center in the Dean of Students Office. You will be requested to fill a request form for accommodations and also present medical documents issued by medical specialists.

  • Students and visitors with a Certificate of Blindness may enter the campus without a security check of their bag, upon presenting the certificate to the security representative at the entrance.

 
Pathways to Buildings

Right Hear audio guidance devices are installed -  

Jabotinsky campus – from the security guard booth, through the Celsius building, in the pathways between the Dalton, Volt and Hertz buildings and up to the elevator in the Decibel building.
Bnei Brit campus – from the security guard booth, through Building A to the elevator in Building A, in the pathways between buildings A to B up to the elevator in building B.

Service Points

Loop Hear devices are installed in service provider offices – Student Administration, offices of the academic departments/units, library, Exam Unit. 

Waiting Areas

Accessible chairs are available in building hallways.

Marked Steps and Handrails

  • Tactile warning surfaces in all stairways on campus.
  • Ends of stairway handrails are marked so they do not end abruptly.

Accessible Signage

  • Accessible signage along the way and at the exit from elevators and buildings.
  • Direction signs to stairways.
  • Direction signs to accessible rest rooms in all buildings.

  • Accessible entrance from Celsius building.
  • Accessible service counter, Loop Hear device is installed.
  • Accessible men’s and women’s rest rooms on the same floor near the library.
  • Accessibility to the computer workstations adjacent to the printer area.
  • Accessibility to the photocopy/printing machine adapted for persons in a wheelchair.
  • Accessibility to the device for charging photocopy and printing cards.

Accessibility to Classrooms

  • Information about accessibility for persons with a physical disability and/or a hearing disability to campus auditoriums/classrooms – please contact the Accessibility Coordinator at 08-8519011 or email eyehielh@sce.ac.il, or the head of the Student Support Center in the Dean of Students Office.
  • Personal FM devices can be loaned from the Student Support Center for class use by students with a hearing disability.
  • Practice using English-reading software on computers at the Student Support Center in the Dean of Students Office.

Wheelchair Accessible Lecture Halls

To reach the lecture stage with a wheelchair please contact the individual responsible for buildings in order to install a mobile ramp, in coordination with the venue class schedule.
