True Friends: Good Deeds Day by the Ashdod Students

The Students Union on the Ashdod Campus initiated refurbishment of the children and youth at risk center run by the city’s Friends Association.

“Most of us in the Union are residents of the city and it was obvious to us that we would want to harness the power of the College’s Students Union to benefit communities in the city”, said Or Elmakayes, Chairman of the Student’s Union at the College’s Ashdod Campus. Over recent weeks the Union, under Or’s leadership, reached out to the Friends Association for Children and Youth at Risk and enlisted student members of the Union to refurbish the Association’s building and surroundings in the city.

As part of the Good Deeds Day students arrived to clean the entrance area, weeded the grounds and installed synthetic grass. The Union’s students also painted the shelter that serves as the organization’s main building, so that entering and staying there will be pleasant for the young people that join the various activities.

To conclude the activities, the volunteers created a football field by cleaning the space and installing nets on the goals, ending a satisfactory day of effort.

“The activity required extensive manpower”, said Or, “So to enlist the students we established a registration form and spread the word of our intended activities for Good Deeds Day. We are pleased with the response, thanks to which scores of students arrived and proved our strength. We will continue to promote the connection between students and the community in which will live, as well as to take care of students wellbeing at the College”.
