Undergraduate Program
The 21st century is characterized by countless screens, abundant knowledge and global cultural communication. Visual communication, that focuses on the design of screens of any size and for any form of use, is currently an important interactive discipline that operates in a changing technological environment, impacts the modern lifestyle and to a large extent determines the public agenda in all areas of life.
The rationale of the Bachelor’s degree program in visual communication stems from the designer’s role in an age of accelerated technology and changing formats and content that call for a new narrative, emotional and cognitive, based on both technological and artistic knowledge. The study program addresses the digital revolution, the challenges of the current age and the expansive archived knowledge – pictographic, sound and textual – at our disposal.
The program will provide a broad artistic foundation that includes: drawing, illustration, video art, design in movement, animation and interactive design.
As designers, program graduates will think, act and create autonomously in contending with open questions and with analytical, research and execution challenges, will utilize all the talent and aesthetic sensitivity with which they were endowed and will integrate them with the knowledge and toolkit they acquired in their four years of study.
The Bachelor’s degree program in visual communication is based on a four-stage pedagogic program: artistic sensitivity; technological literacy; the individual and the community; and exposure to world design. The synergistic products will provide students with a practical toolkit and creative thinking which will enable them to find their place in the technological industries as artists with their own language.
The courses will develop the students’ personal visual language for communicating messages, ideas and concepts, while applying design thinking skills and the ability to make messages and ideas tangible and accessible.
The core courses will focus mainly on the various screen mediums – smartphone, television, computer and cinema, and on the use of static and dynamic composition that integrates picture / text / color / movement / sound into a complete unit with communication semantics.
Through varied experience with design foundations and design principles students will develop proficiency in visual illustration skills as a structured process for creating message-accurate visual communication.
The proposed program has four main objectives:
- Train program graduates to drive creative design in advanced digital industries;
- Develop and cultivate social sensitivity and responsibility with respect to population stratification in Israel and the challenges it poses;
- Develop graduates with artistic and technological literacy which will enable them to contend with changing challenges in a digital world;
- Provide graduates with an artistic toolkit for innovative, creative and authentic self-expression.
* Certification of graduates is subject to approval of the Council for Higher Education.
