Presentation of design specifications in conjunction with the Soldiers' House | 1st floor in Katzir Building | 11:00-13:00
During the first semester of the third-year course in the Design and Development of Products Track, as part of a unique cooperative project initiated by the lecturer, Naama Agassi, SCE students met with wounded and rehabilitating patients from the Soldiers' House. These students learned about the daily challenges facing the disabled and, accordingly, developed novel products for their personal use, that would improve their independence and functioning. Each solution that was developed was, essentially, a practical expression of concern for their wellbeing, and of creativity, as well as of the power of engineering to change life. Among the projects to be exhibited are: mechanical aids for tying shoelaces; a device for soaping and drying the body in the shower; an aid for flying a kite; and others.
The Robot Challenge | 1st floor, Katzir Building | 16:00-18:00
SCE students from each “Mechanical Engineering” track will present the projects they developed during the semester in mixed teams—students from the “Planning and Design” track together with students from “Robotics.” Within the framework of this project, the students were asked to plan and create autonomic robots that would be able to perform a predetermined task—collecting drink cans from the street and putting them into waste bins, without any human control. These active robotics projects will be displayed at the above date and time in an area simulating a real, littered street environment. Among other areas of expertise, the Hackathon emphasizes the value of cooperation and teamwork, as well as the integration of planning principles, algorithmics and creative thinking, while stressing practical applications and working with hardware. This is the culmination of the experiential learning process, the goal of which is to expose the students to real engineering challenges, for the development of interdisciplinary abilities and the experience of enjoyable and significant technological creation.
“Heat, Flow and Movement” | 1st floor, Katzir Building | 16:00-18:00
This exhibition will present the products from the third-year course: “Product engineering,” in SCE’s “Energy” track. During this course, the students were required to create a single product that demonstrates an energy-related physical principle, or principles of fluid mechanics, or the thermal sciences. Each displayed project reflects a complete engineering process, ranging from the identification of a physical problem, through the development of a innovative solution, via calculations and simulations, and until the creation of a prototype and the testing of its performances. The students apply all the principles of thermal conduction, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics, to create interactive, experiential demonstrations. One of the key goals of this exhibition is to enable the visitors to learn and understand physical phenomena in a personal, experiential manner, without feeling as though their attending a lesson. By means of such interactive, visual, accessible presentations, the visitors are exposed to scientific and engineering principles in a natural and intriguing way. During their work process, the students had to cope with the gaps between theory and reality, such as problems of suitability, the impact of certain forces, the importance of appropriate tolerances, etc. These challenges strengthened their practical understanding and prepared them for dealing with engineering issues in the real world.
