Launching of the Visual Communications Department
Transmedia: “The Embodiment of Narrative in Variable Mediums”
The Visual Communications Department will be holding its first convention on 25-26 May 2022, at the Minkoff Hall on the Beer Sheba campus.
The subject of the convention - “Transmedia” - has been one of the most pertinent in visual communication over recent years. The term refers to how a story, narrative or branding can be spread over various platforms and mediums in design practice. The term illustrates how a message is conveyed through a story/narrative, using various technologies and platforms.
The convention includes lectures, workshops and an exhibition. The lectures will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, in three inter-disciplinary panels which will allow for a dialog between designers from the industry and theoreticians from the fields of art, design and technology. The panels and the lectures will deal with both the theory and the practice of transmedia, with emphasis on the affects of technology on visual communications creation. This is a very important issue in the current era and should be addressed in terms of culture, economy and even judicially.
An additional objective of the convention is to promote networks of industry and visual communications in the Negev. On the day of the convention an exhibition of the students’ works will be on display at the Visual Communications Department gallery. The works were made during the first and second semesters, made by students from the department’s first year of students.
On the second day of the convention, Thursday May 26, 2022, there will be three workshops designed for the department’s students, two of which will be open to the general public.
The convention organizers, the Visual Communications Department team: Nino Biniashvili, Ido Zeifman, Dr. Esti Kravitz-Luria. Design: Noa Segal and Yoav Brill.
