The Second Conference On Regionalism
The Second Conference on Regionalism will be held on Thursday, 30.10.2025, at SCE and in the Goodman Acting School. It will focus on various aspects of southern regionalism and deal with the three studio topics of the fifth-year students in the SCE School of Architecture: restoration, coping with extreme conditions, and the integration of technology in the region—by means of which they will research and present opportunities and challenges in a multidisciplinary and contemporary manner.
This Annual Conference, in cooperation with the Be’er-Sheva Municipality, exemplifies a new framework for leading regional thinking and building a cooperative future—one that may spread throughout the southern region. This program pledges to create relevant dialogue based on the southern perspective—to take innovative action and to promote and expand cooperative action between academic research, practical applications, communities, and people in the field.
SCE’s School of Architecture continues to deepen and establish its regional thinking, in its outlook, its ethics, and as a central topic in theoretical and practical research in the heart of the Negev Region. On one hand, architectural action aspires to and requires acuteness and focus on details, while on the other hand, it demands the development of comprehensive vision, in light of the special environment in which the school functions. Development of the Negev and the City of Be’er-Sheva, the restoration of the Gaza Envelope and the western Negev are Israeli strategic issues. The nature of such recognition, development, and restoration processes, the public policies that will design them, those who will not take part in those processes, solutions, and arrangements to come—they will all affect the image of the Negev in the years that follow, and impact all of Israel. This year’s conference is meant to deal with the above subjects and their ramifications.
